The Foothills of North Carolina
The Foothills region of North Carolina is loosely defined as the area along Western North Carolina’s boundary with South Carolina
that stretches up to Virginia on the
eastern side of the Appalachian
Mountains. The Foothills is a region where the terrain transitions from the Piedmont of
Central North Carolina to the Appalachian Mountains. The hilly topography of the Foothills is enhanced
by long range views of the mountains, providing for picturesque NC Golf. The largest cities in the Foothills are Saluda NC, Tryon North Carolina, Columbus NC and
Hendersonville North Carolina. Hendersonville Weather is more moderate than nearby
Asheville NC and the High Country with temperatures in the 70’s during the summer and the 30’s during the winter. The Foothills does experience more precipitation than many other areas of North Carolina because of its proximity to the mountains. During the month of March, the wettest month, Hendersonville receive an average of 5.94 inches and annual precipitation of 56.62 inches. Nearby Tryon, Saluda and Columbus experience more mild winters and generally more rainfall, averaging 65.6 inches per year. July in Saluda NC sees an average maximum temperature of 89.10°, while January brings an average minimum temperature of 30.3°.
